Two Days - 800 Miles!

What started out as a fairly simple trip to Cape Flattery on the Olympic Peninsula of WA turned into an 800 mile adventure.
Cape Flattery is the northwesternmost point in the continental U.S. To get there from Ellensburg, you must drive to Seattle, over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, past Bremerton, and on to Port Angeles. Next, you encounter a winding narrow road with 15 mile per hour turns for about 70 miles to the town of Neah Bay - if you want to call that a town. Next, you drive past Neah Bay, stop, and walk an easy 0.75 mile trail to find yourself at the point of the US.
After that adventure, we drove down through Forks, WA, which is really nowhere except for being the setting for a set of books loved by teenagers called Twilight. Then we traveled down to Aberdeen, back through Olympia, and home again. Here are some pictures of the point.

Let' Take a Walk!

Date: Saturday, August 30
I have a phone message. It is my friend Priscilla in Belgrade. She wondered if I would like to go on a walk with her. So, you say, what is so odd about that?
Several times over the past few years, Priscilla has walked to Manhattan (MT, not NY) AND back. So, that was the walk.
We started out on Sunday morning, August 31, at 7:33 am. Our route to Manhattan would be 14 miles on Dry Creek Road. After a few stops, (can you imagine we even found a bathroom on the way!) we "pulled in" to Manhattan at about 12:30. After a pizza lunch at the only cafe open on Sunday, we headed back on the frontage road. That is only about 9 to 10 miles. We had to walk single file as the road is quite narrow. At 4:43 pm, we "pulled" into Priscilla's yard! Our time: 9 hours 10 minutes which included a one hour lunch break!
Today, I skipped my morning walk.

Picture from Washington DC

Oops did not get the picture loaded. Maybe now.

July Adventures

II am still experimenting with the “blog thing.” Our recent activities have included a trip to Woodbury, MN, to see Zach (yep, he is first on our list!), Scott, and Liz. (Sorry parents, you are less important.) In the cities, Alan and Scott attended the 3M glof tournament and even ate and drank in the 3M “bigwigs” tent. During our stay, they got to play some golf on their own too. My adventures included trips to the Woodbury Mall and the MOA with Zachie! We also went to the zoo – see Liz’s blog for details – I am delinquent in picture–taking!

After we got back from our trip, I went on a raft trip on the Stillwater River with some high school classmates. The weather was perfect and we all had a great time!

I think I posted a picture here. It is of our April trip to Washington, DC, and a baseball game there.

Quick "Venture to Northeastern Montana, June 2009

This first post is about a quick adventure to northeastern montana to a class reunion, to a production of the Wizard of Oz at Fort Peck Theater, and to see many relatives.

First Blog Attempt

Everyone seems to have a blog, so now I have one too! This first blog is about a short 'venture (adventure) with Maryn and Bryn to Scobey, MT. Our trip started on a Saturday morning as we headed to the northeast corner of Montana. The girls kept asking if we were in nowhere which we mostly were. The purpose of our trip was my class reunion and a chance to see the Wizard of Oz at Fort Peck Theater. We visited many different people and saw many relatives before returning home Monday night.
